Experiment One - Dream State (right click and save as)

The Experiment will be a series of 30 min Mixes.

Each one will have a slightly different perspective with Dream State being the first Muse.

One of the approaches I took on this mix was to use Audiophile Cartridges (Lin-K18) through and all Tube Audio Research Phono Stage. These far and exceed anything in the dj world but at the cost of no back cue. It’s not cool to kill cartridges at this price range.

The Recording program was Sequoia and captured at 32bit 96 KHz.

Track Listing:
1. Maurizio-Ploy (Elaye Records)
2. Round Two-New Day (Tresor)
3. Scion-Emerge (Chain Reaction)
4. Heiko Laux-Presence (Kanzleramt)
5. Vullmond-Here Side (Full Moon Trax)
6. Mark Broom-Beat Trip (Speaker Attack)
7. Pacou-Code09 (Djax)
8. Shamus Coghlan-Between D Linez (MU Records)
9. Tardy Tracks-Larry (Beige Records)

As always this mix is for enjoyment and not for profit. These artists are held in the highest regards.

Remember,

Great Music is eternal.

Experiment Two - Tape Drive Side A. (right click and save as)

Experiment Two-Tape Drive Side B. (right click and save as)

This Experiment is close to 45min/side = 90mins combined.

I played a bit with Ableton Live and Straight through my MacBookPro's soundcard (no-warping). I did use the Audio Research and a Shure White Label for the cartridge. Also used was AirWindows Iron Oxide tape emulator for that dirty sound and Native Instruments Reaktor with custom made filters. The idea of this experiment was to have some fun and just have a tape for a car drive. It's a bit slower but also a bit deeper. I have been playing a lot of old tapes and somewhere we seem to have lost the fun aspects of music. I mean some of the old tapes sound low-fi but they are still the most enjoyable. Not perfect but hopefully you enjoy the mix.

There will be two parts..... Side A/B.

FOCUSED DJ LIVE MIXES

GEMINI TRANSCEIVER (right click and save as)

The Gemini Transceiver mix is a journey of sound that represents some of the most moving parts of my life, beliefs, and feelings through the last year (2005). Moving from a minimal sound with lots of atmosphere and slowly digging deeper I wanted to allow the listener to get lost and more enveloped much as they would at a large event with a dynamic, full range, sound system. The levels move up and down as well as the mixes to create movement much as life would. There are moments of intensity, harmony, pleasure, darkness, sparseness, and transition between to tie the journey together like my experiences. Hopefully the mix will grow and the listener will find knew details over time to add to the pleasure of the journey.

Special thanks to Tom Kuo for his use of the mixer and believing, Nick Petty for the recording and decks, and of course my Bro Vergel for the dubplates and keeping our music going. Mad respect to the artists who I used on this mix, you truly represent what I believe a true artist is.

DOPAMINE DISCOTECH Shamus Coghlan Live PA (right click and save as)

Back in 2004 I was experimenting with the initial stages of surround sound. I did a live set and bounced it down to stereo. Here is the results of that set. The sound I would push closer to a minimal category. The ideal of the journey was to be walking through the entrances of old warehouses where everything sounds splashy and reverberant. As you move in there is that moment of anticipation where you do not know where things are going to just getting lost in the wall of sound and vibe. Of course there are the various dirty sounds that rip and make rooms go crazy and the finale that has the sun shining through and leaving everyone cleansed and in a fresh state of mind.

Yes back in those days warehouse jams and the atmosphere was an extremely special and experience to have been a part of.
